The problems of humanity are many and the solutions lie in the discovery of the causes which bring them about. One major cause is the ignore-ance of the true purpose of life and the process by which it is achieved. The concept of re-birth is a most valuable insight into gaining an intuitive appreciation of the purpose and process of life.
Within the human family is a vast range of consciousness, due in part to the point of initial birth into the stream of life. The individual rate of progress through repeated births constitutes also another cause for differences in the state of consciousness. There are those within the race who are older and have, as a result, gained more skill and experience in the art of living within the evolutionary cycles; the level of consciousnes for them, therefore, will differ naturally from those who began their evolutionary journey at a later point in time.
In the consideration of re-birth as a plausible factor in the process of life, there arises an intuitive understanding of the natural differences existing between people. In the recognition and acknowledgement of these differences in cinsciousness within the collective whole, we may discover intelligent ways of solving many of our problems in regard to right human relations. The task is difficult, to be sure, and requires a wide group of individuals across the globe who are imbibed with knowledge of a higher nature, and with the will to expand consciousness so as to include all within the collective whole. Perhaps we are in this very process of expansion right now.
As we listen more carefully to the Ancient wisdom which has been seeping through the human mind for some time now, we are beginning to think in a new way and to reflect more deeply in response to urgent need. We are seeing glimpses of intuitive response to world need in our educationalists, psychologists, scientists, and most importantly at this time, our economists. These changes in our thinking are playing a major role in the further development of understanding in regard to our true purpose on this planet.
The other major challenge facing the majority of human beings is glamourand illusion; many in the world are helplessly influenced by the glamours of the physical, emotional, and mental planes. There are many in the race who respond with facility to world glamour.
‘Glamour has been likened to a mist or fog in which the aspirant wanders and which distorts all that he sees and contacts, preventing him from ever seeing life truly or clearly or the conditions surrounding him as they essentially are’.
Humanity, as has been given, is the world aspirant, and whether we are aware of it or not, we are, as a collective whole, in a long process of development which is geared towards a series of expansions in consciousness. World glamour is ancient and created by selfish desire; today, much of it is related to the material wealth of the physical plane and to the greed of the ego-centric personality.
‘Down the ages, the Glamour of Materiality has held the race increasingly interested, until today the entire world has been swept into the rhythm of money interest’.
The forces of glamour are powerful and motivate blindly the consciousness of the majority towards material acquisition and personality fulfilment, as a life goal. At a certain stage in the long evolutionary cycle this motivation to possess the things of the earth is natural and also necessary, but as humanity advances to a more mature stage of development it needs to be transcended. It is this glamour of greedy possession that is the cause of much of the present economic world distress.
It is alarming to see the extent of glamour as it manifests in the collective lifestyle. It is also difficult, even for those who are attempting to awaken, to detect these forces when they hold us in their sway, as the relentless drive for material gain has become the ‘normal’ mindset of modern day humanity, who somehow has discarded sound and long-established values which have kept the race relatively aligned with a deeper purpose and a truer meaning of life. These glamours are to be transcended now by Humanity, before the next step forward can be taken.
‘Through the emphasis in the world of certain basic ideas such as goodwill and mutual inter-dependence, much is being done to dissipate the glamour in which we, the people of the world, are walking’. Thus speak the Wise.
Apart from the majority who are motivated primarily by the glamours of the emotional plane, there are those among us who form part of a fast growing minority. These are the strongly mental types: the thinking people of the race who are, in contrast, subject to mental illusion. They have mostly outgrown the pull of glamour and are controlled more by thought-forms which exist in abundance on the mental plane and which control the life activity.
Among these mental types are found many who cling avidly to pet theories and ideals, which may or may not be founded on sound reasoning or intuitive understanding. The lower levels of the mental plane manifest a different sort of distortion to that of the emotional plane and is a hornet’s nest of illusion.
‘What is needed therefore at this time, are thinkers who are training themselves in that mental attitude and one-pointedness which is divorced from the danger of a negative receptivity and is responsive, at the same time, to the higher intuitional inspiration‘, thus speak the Wise. ‘Many good people today are unaware of the subtle, but very real existence of the forces of glamour and illusion which build a wall between them and the Light. They deify their glamours and regard their illusions as their prized and hard won possessions’.
A way out of the melee in which we now find ourselves is perhaps through sound leadership, governed by a deep understanding of the facts of life as given in certain Teachings. It is only until the Honourable (in the truest sense of the word) form the leadership of mankind will there be a fundamental change in the right direction. Until then, we will continue to live in a haphazard manner, undirected by clear thought and driven by desire. If past history is anything to go by we know that this leads frequently to wars on an individual and national level. May the true leaders of humanity step forward in good time to lead us out of this present impasse.
