It has been said that there are four “natural” enemies which we must face at some point in our lives, and which must be overcome:
Fear
Sobriety
Power
Old Age
They can be thought of as overarching moods, covering years, and are not entirely faced sequentially though one dominates for a given period.
Fear debilitates and confines. Its mantra is: “I can’t!
Sobriety leads to arrogance. It chants: “I’m the one who sees clearly. I know better!”
Power turns to love of domination. It demands: “Obey me!”
Old Age relinquishes and gives up. It repeats incessantly: “I’m old and no longer useful”.
Reflect on these four usurpers of the Light and identify which one is surreptitiously stealing away your awareness at this moment in time.

Summing up these “moods” in a few simple words is a really good way of “checking” where one is at any one time. Beautifully summarised.Thanks.
