The term ‘glamour’ covers all aspects of those deceptions, illusions, misunderstandings and misinterpretations which confront every human being at every step of the way . . . until Unity is achieved.
Glamour is based upon the sense of duality.
If the sense of duality did not exist there would be no glamour.
The perception of duality lies at the very root of the troubles which humanity faces.
The world we live in is a world of opposites and opposites create separation.
We have created this world with our minds… by the way we think and believe.
Black vs white, good vs bad, male vs female, beauty vs ugliness, and so on.
One wonders how much of our beliefs are the result of sensual perceptions,
the blind belief in outer appearances because the mind can see no further.
The clinging to the material world is the cause of division and separation.
We have heard it said that we are all One.
Have we thought deeply about what this means—
for One implies there is no separation.
In the material view of the universe,
the senses present a world of duality
and the ‘thinkery-thonkery’ mind believes the impressions.
The belief in duality constitutes the great problem of consciousness.
It is, in fact, a difficulty in the realm of consciousness itself.
The dweller in the body (the conditioned personality) perceives wrongly
because it is taught wrongly;
It therefore interprets incorrectly that which is perceived
and then proceeds to identify itself with that which is not itself;
This view fixates the consciousness in the realm of phenomena
which engulfs, deludes and imprisons the mind . . .
until it becomes restless and unhappy with the sense that something is wrong.
Many of us today are in this situation, sensing strongly
that something is inherently incorrect in our view of ourselves
and the world in which we live.
In this recognition we realise that we are not what we appear to be,
and that the phenomenal world of appearances
is not identical with reality as we had hitherto supposed it to be.
From this moment of awakening
the mind is pushed and pulled until it finds its mark.
In the constant struggle for lasting peace
a desire arises finally to end the tug of war —
and we engage in some spiritual process that will achieve a sense of unity.
This shift in consciousness is a momentous turning point
and a major occurrence in the world today.
In the recognition of duality,
the deep complexes within Humanity are observed
as we face a gruelling period of extrication from glamour
and the long-awaited emergence into a world of perception
wherein Unity is known.
We are beginning to sense the presence of the One Soul of Humanity,
the Higher Self and the realm within which It lives.
