Before writing this article I had to consider very basic questions relating to spiritual Impressions: the legitimacy of personal impacts garnered over the years and the cumulative effect they have had on the life expression. Have I truly received insights from spheres other than those that come from the world of human endeavour? Is it clear to me that they do—some at least—come from a higher source, or are they simply sudden flights of fancy, prompted by a vivid imagination or an emotional longing for deeper experience?
To set the record straight from the outset, let it be known that there are no doubts in mind about the source of these particular impressions which grow stronger by the day, for not only are they sensed as valuable glimpses of truth, they are also becoming more visibly apparent in the lives of many others in our fast-changing world today. It is clear that sections of humanity are ‘waking up’ to a higher reality and to the growing conviction of these subtle communications occurring between ourselves and Those Who dwell in higher realms. The many positive and ingenious New Age alternatives emerging in every field of human endeavour present irrefutable evidence (for those who have eyes to see) of humanity’s increasing sensitivity to higher and more subtle currents of thought. These impressions are lifting minds and hearts toward a new world vision, despite the steady crumbling of our present world structures, viewed accurately by many as a sinking ship overwhelmed by the beating of ocean waves.
The primary motive in writing this article is to evoke in those who are awakening, a more conscious and collective attunement to Those who dwell in higher realms; to reiterate the growing need for conscious integration with Them on the mental planes, and to encourage the idea of building a spirit of camaraderie between the human and spiritual realms. But this may sound like fantasy to those who are rooted in the material world. This article is a bold attempt to ‘sound a note’ that may pique the interest of those who are, at heart, pioneers of the New Age, and to fuse and merge more of us into an invocative group, alert and sensitive to impressions that are rapidly pouring into our planet from higher realms. In this soul awakening, we are now more equipped than ever before to face simultaneously in two directions: vertically, towards a higher realm, orienting ourselves to the Forces of Light, and horizontally, distributing among ourselves the downpour of Light into the dark and unregenerated places of human living.
We are all aware by now that the rudder of the ‘ship of state’ has become disabled and the decks are taking on more and more water by the day. Without the intervention of higher Forces with Their power to stabilise, it will inevitably sink by the constant battering of ocean waves. This seems almost inevitable as we watch world events unfold, and the increase of environmental catastrophes, geopolitical tensions and social unrest. What is of most concern, however, is not so much the sinking ship per se, but the safety of the passengers on board. Except for those who are somewhat cognisant of a Spiritual Hierarchy, and whose inner senses are attuned to the existence of higher Forces, there are many who are still unaware that great help is near at hand, waiting to take us to a safer shore.
Our heartfelt concern for the welfare of humanity is best served by the conscious turning of the collective mind and heart towards Those Who stand ready at hand, on the eve of externalisation. In turning towards a higher source, we begin to participate more consciously in the intelligent implementation of the divine Plan. Humanity cannot solve the mounting problems of this world alone. We have not the wisdom, love and will to offset the cumulative crises occurring in the world today. We are told in esoteric teachings that the spiritual Hierarchy once walked among men, wisely guiding humanity towards right evolutionary development. We are told further that today They are now hovering on the threshold, waiting to externalise at this point of Earth’s evolution into a New Age. The externalisation of the spiritual Kingdom, however, is very much dependent on a sufficient number of men and women–in group formation–providing the necessary platform for Their emergence.
The lighted bridge that connects the human and spiritual kingdoms is secured by a conscious and steadfast acknowledgement, on our part, of Their existence, and by the cultivation of a more selfless love among ourselves. It is the permanent shift in consciousness to the level of the soul that will bring in all that is needed to drive the planetary Life into a new gear. This article is one among many that seeks to foster a world-wide fellowship of spiritual pioneers, one that will establish a powerful magnetic field for the interplay of new currents of thought and healing brought into action by an alliance between the human and spiritual realms. We have begun to evoke aspects of these higher possibilities within the collective mind-set in the pioneering works that are occurring daily but are too often hidden from plain view. Through this growing intensification, brought about through conscious alliance between the two kingdoms, higher visions of a new world are entering the field of mind through the creative imagination and the power to visualise.
We would do well to remember that we are entering the Age of the Soul where new energies are abundant and the daily life of even the most ordinary man is charged with new impulses driven by highly-concentrated currents of energy emanating from the awakening soul and from higher realms.
There is much occurring in our day to day living that is truly supermundane, yet many of these higher impressions are frequently ignored and brushed aside flippantly as flights of fancy. We would do well to realise, perhaps, that there are many more causes of a supermundane nature influencing the events on earth and in the world of men than there are mundane causes. True impressions are often received by many in vivid dreams during sleep, in lucid insights while day-dreaming, during intuitive conversations with those who are privy to spiritual impressions, and through the power of beautiful music, insightful articles, books and movies. They are perhaps more common than we are willing to admit. The heavy weight of materialism has sunk so deep into the human heart and mind that it leaves little time or space these days for wakeful sensitivity to the more subtle and ubiquitous currents that are constantly moving into our space from higher Worlds.
The power of free will is a most potent energy when harnessed and implemented for the sake of good, and we are all free to choose at any moment the way we wish to go. With the impact of materialism, blinding temporarily even those who are cognisant of higher Truth, the age-old tendency to ignore blatant facts grows more powerful as the battle between light and dark, truth and untruth, spirituality and materialism rises to a crescendo in the hearts of men and women everywhere. Yet, as each of us turns more readily towards the Light in any given moment, so the potency of spiritual energy increases, drawing us to the new and higher truths. The choice we face as individuals and as a collective is clear: do we awaken fully to the transformative possibilities before us, or do we continue in a state of sleep and inertia with which we have grown so familiar, trusting mindlessly in the idea that world unrest will somehow work itself out miraculously.
The time has come to establish on earth a new way of living. This is becoming obvious to all clear-thinking people. The need for transformation is deeply inspiring as it envisions a world based on goodwill, where love and selflessness are sustained by a deeper understanding of Man’s true nature and purpose; a world upheld by law and order founded on the principles of universal peace, wisdom and justice. The present world conditions have grown so complicated that many believe it would require a miracle to set the balance right. Yet, perhaps the solution is simpler than we realise and has been staring us in the face for a long time, unseen because it requires on a collective scale a great leap of faith. There are many in the world who are becoming cognisant of what lies beyond the material world: the Soul, and the Kingdom of Souls, and its wide and glorious range of Vision, Love and Wisdom.
In the vertical awareness of That which stands above, a response is evoked in those who stand below. Vertical awareness is the stepping stone to making positive shifts in our world view, in contrast to horizontal awareness which consists in acquiring more knowledge while operating at the same level of cognitive, emotional and relational complexities. If we restrict ourselves only to the latter, we will not find true and long-lasting solutions, being unable to see the forest for the trees. Vertical awareness includes, not only the potent force of our own Souls, but a higher Kingdom of perfected Souls Who live therein.
The spiritual kingdom exists. It is a kingdom whose presence draws nearer by the day, and which now requires the collective Soul of Humanity to open and face in Its direction. The alignment between the spiritual and the human kingdoms is the next immediate step on the path of evolution. As the alliance between the two becomes more palpably evident to those who sense the Light, so it will become a realistic and synthesising experience in the construction of a new world.
There is much for us to look forward to.
