This was written down in a private file fairly recently but there is no mention of an author. I thought I would share it with you. It’s a practical guide to discerning the true from the false, and to discriminate in daily living between the higher and lower self.

7 WAYS TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN YOUR INTUITIVE VOICE VS. YOUR EGO
We All Need A Way To Determine Our Own Truth. To Be Able To Decipher At Any Moment The Choices To Make And The Path To Take That Will Lead Us Into The Health, Wealth, And Happiness That We Seek For Ourselves And For Others. A way out of ‘blah’ and into expressing our higher Self. And let’s face it. It’s not like we aren’t trying. We all want to listen and live by divine guidance, but knowing exactly how to do that in ‘real life’ is an entirely different story. Here’s a question that’s asked a lot:
“How Do I Tell The Difference Between Real Intuitive Answers From My Higher Self Versus Ones From Fear And Ego? Which Voice Do I Listen To?”
Intuitive blocks take many different forms. And they love to rear their ugly heads at the same time that your true intuitive answers from your Higher Self are coming in. And, more often than not the answers conflict. One voice is telling you, “Go for it!” The other is screaming, “Hold on there, Turbo! Slow your roll!”
The key to deciphering which message is the right one for you lies in not trying to pick apart the answer or message itself, but to examine and understand the voice that’s sending it.
Here Are The 7 Key Characteristics Of Your True Intuitive Voice, The Voice Of Your Higher Self Vs. Your Ego.
Knowing how to tell the difference between the two will help you get clear enough to hear your truth and align, so you can get busy being your most awesome Self.
#1. This one is probably the most important one on the list, so it goes first. Your real intuitive voice is unconditionally loving, supportive, and encouraging. Your Higher Self never criticises you. Ever. It always treats you and everyone else with loving kindness and consideration. If you catch yourself being critical of yourself or others, this is a huge red flag! The ego voice criticices you (and everyone else) like it gets paid a bonus for it. It uses harsh treatment under the cover of ‘tough love’ as a way to ‘motivate’ you to do what it wants you to do. And what it tells you to do rarely has anything to do with helping you live your dreams.
#2. Your intuition is completely solution-oriented. It recognises the issues, but it doesn’t focus on them; it just deals with them. It likes to balance and weigh possibilities and options equally, then decide. Your ego voice has 99 problems, and that still isn’t enough! It loves to focus on obstacles and difficulties with a critically skewed view. Instead of possibilities, it sees 1000 reasons why you shouldn’t take a chance and go for it. If it feels limiting or restrictive, that’s your ego talking!
#3. Your intuitive voice always remains calm and centered, even in the most chaotic situations. It feels very grounded but forward moving at the same time. The voice of your ego is totally anxious and very fond of running worst case scenarios on a hamster wheel of repetitive style thinking. It doesn’t counsel with the goal of helping you move forward, but from the perspective of ‘protecting and defending’ you from what it perceives to be harmful, which is basically anything outside of your cozy lil’ comfort zone.
#4. Your intuitive voice understands life’s grey areas and complexities. Its guidance can be very non-linear and hard to make logical sense of at times. This is because it’s coming from a level of awareness that can see beyond what we can see with our human minds. This is where trust comes in and why it’s so important. Your ego on the other hand, has very little vision and sees the world in black and white terms. It loves to judge and categorise everything. It does this so it can feel safe and in control, which is its 100% priority.
#5. Your intuitive voice encourages curiosity about the unknown and loves to examine all evidence. It takes time and space to make balanced and thoughtful decisions and it’s very patient. Your ego couldn’t care less about playful exploration of new points of view. All it wants to do is make a decision, and make it fast. Preferably one that will result in you staying put, right where you are.
#6. Your Higher Self always counsels towards a win-win situation where the highest good of all is served, including yourself. It sees the world through interconnectedness and understands that what hurts others hurts you, and vice versa. Ego seeks to ‘get yours first’ then worry about others later. Or even worse, it constantly demands you sacrifice yourself for the ‘greater good.’ It’s not wise enough to find the balance between service to self and the rest of mankind.
#7. Your intuitive voice is very cooperative, non-intrusive and empowering. It doesn’t force its agenda. It encourages you to make your own choice. In fact, one of the most common intuitive answers you’ll get from your Higher Self is, “Well, what do you think and feel about it? What do you truly want? Together, we will come up with something true and useful.” The egoic voice will nag, whine, cry, moan, and kick and scream like a baby if you don’t do what it tells you to do. It’s very intrusive and demanding, because it lacks trust in anyone (including you) or anything to keep it safe, which is all it really cares about.

So, the next time we’re struggling to see, hear, and feel the answer or guidance that’s right, stop and ask yourself. . .“Which voice am I paying the most attention to and taking advice from?” Let’s remember that we get to choose which voice inside leads and guides our life. We always have the ability to choose empowerment over fear.
This is a very useful remedy for what goes on much of the time.
