The saying: ‘Those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death’, offers a new meaning and connotation. There are places in the unknown regions of Earth’s life where the shadows exist, the shadow of death, not the death of the body but the death of the mind.
In these dark places, the mind remains inert and lost in the dense substance created by the wrong use of a God-given faculty—man’s mind and freewill. In this density, the soul is starved to such a degree as to render it ‘cut-off’ and its Light shut away. Surely that is death . . . or rather the shadow of death.
Death of the body signifies a natural change from one phase of existence to another, though many still hold to the belief that the afterlife is non-existent. The shadow of death is a gruesome alternative, one that will never be experienced by those who seek to live the good life and open their minds to Truth. The Good Life is not a sentimental and vague dream of goodness, neither is it the ego-swelling do-gooding and praying in public which the Great One condemned in the Pharisees.
The following of the true Inner Light is obedience to the guidance of that Light, and the consequent work and action prescribed by the wisdom of that Light. This constitutes the Good Life, the full life, the life more abundant as indicated in the scriptures of all religions.
‘A soul-infused personality’ is the saving grace of all who seek to live a good life. Soul is Light infused . . . or infused Light. The shutting away of the soul is darkness and many do it. Just as the sun is the carrier of light-beams to the earth, the Soul is the carrier of Light beams to the personality. Those who choose blindly to sit in darkness— and there are still many—reject the beams of Light from their souls, and this leads ultimately into the shadow of death (where they remain until the light of the soul finds its way through).
May the soul’s Light shine ever more brightly in the minds of all who seek to live the good life. And may the collective light of these awakening souls help to lift the illusions of the shadow places and dispel them forever.
