THE SOLAR PLEXUS AND THE AJNA CENTRE

There are four major chakras situated above the diaphragm in the upper region of the etheric body of human beings: the head chakra, the ajna centre between the eyebrows, and the throat and heart centres. These four energy centres are receptive (when active) to energies coming from the soul and beyond.

The three lower centres are positioned in descending order below the diaphragm. They are the solar plexus, sacral, and root centre at the base of the spine. These three chakras are receptive to energies coming from the astral/emotional and the physical realms. Instinct controls via the solar plexus and the two lower centres; lying below the level of waking consciousness, instinct protects and governs most of the habits and life of the organism, and much of the emotional life is also thus governed. It is important to remember that the field of personality expression for many, involves primarily these three lower centres.

There is, however, a natural co-relation between the centres below the diaphragm and those that are situated above. The agent for purification, transmutation and transmission of energies in the lower centres is the solar plexus centre, which is situated in the abdominal region of the etheric body. The Solar Plexus is a ‘clearing house’ and works in connection with the two lower chakras: the sacral and root centres. As energies are gathered by the solar plexus centre – when purified through conscious effort – they transfer into the heart chakra, one of the higher major centres. Intuition ever works through the heart centre, enabling the man/woman to recognise higher impressions coming from the soul, and to direct all proper relations with others.

With the steady growth of intelligence and self-awareness the three-fold personality becomes more integrated, guiding the day to day activities via the controlled mind and brain, which begin to work in coordination with the two other major chakras, the throat and ajna centres. The integrated personality, with its three modes of expression (head, heart and guts), then works as an effective unit at this point in bringing about the goals and aims of the personality. The solar plexus centre is the major controlling centre through which the majority of human beings are at this time working , and for many it remains the controlling centre for the reception and distribution of energies circulating within the confines of a non-integrated personality.

It is assumed by many that spiritual growth occurs only through some form of religious activity, and in many cases it does, but there are other means of spiritual development. It occurs, for instance, through dedicated study to a subject, or through some other focussed field of endeavour, be it business, politics, or philanthropy. Wherever the emphasis may lie, inner development comes to all through the focussed use of energy, intelligently directed to some purposeful end. This is ever reliant on the power of determination and one-pointed aspiration towards that which is sensed as a better alternative. The intent or aim to achieve has a definite effect on certain of the chakras, depending on the quality of activity and the energy used.

The desire for development is essentially an instinctive drive for expansion in consciousness and comes to each and all. Quite often we don’t know what it is we want; we become aware of a growing need in our hearts for change of some kind, or for some improvement in our lifestyle, and it is this longing for new experience that forces us to change in quite unexpected ways. The solar plexus centre plays an important part in this desire for change and therefore can be regarded as a receptive and distributing agent in a unique manner. It transmutes energy of the lower chakras, which is then transmitted to the heart and throat centres when the time is ripe. The heart centre is ever related and connected to the soul, the true Observer.

The Ajna centre (situated within the etheric body between the eyebrows) works in connection with two of the major centres: the heart and throat chakras. In the initial stages it becomes, when activated, the distributor of soul force and of spiritual energy as received from the heart or throat centres. This stage of attainment is described as that of the soul-infused personality, the quality and expression of which are quite different in manifestation to earlier and prior states of being; life and relationships are then seen and experienced from an entirely new perspective. In time and through due process, this chakra blends and fuses the five types of energy which are transmitted to it and blended with it (see previous posts on chakras); these are the energies of the three lower centres below the diaphragm and the throat and heart centres. The soul-infused personality remains the evolutionary goal for those of us who have not yet attained.
