The True Hermaphrodite – A Distant Evolutionary Achievement

Cosmically speaking, sex is a short word used to express the relation existing between Spirit and matter, and between Life and form. Physically speaking, sex is the word used to denote the relation between male and female which results in the reproduction of species.

In modern usage sex is a word which implies the alluring satisfaction of the animal impulses at all costs and without rhythmic regulation. Much of what is done today in light of sex can be seen as a misappropriation of energy and a fundamental disregard for the proper use and purpose of this natural physical function.

The word sex signifies far more than we realise. From the widest point of view the word represents that which is the essential cause of all phenomenal existence. Working between the two opposite poles, spirit and matter, male and female, positive and negative, active and passive, yin and yang, day and night, the sun and moon, is that great Law of Attraction which operates naturally and from which all activity in the manifested universe arises. Sex, in reality, is essentially an expression of duality, it is a process of separation of a unity into two aspects or halves. It is Spirit and matter, the fundamental duality underlying every form of manifestation; it is the male and female principle, as we find it in relationships; it is positive and negative force, in terms of energy. We have only to look in order to see that existence within the manifested world is a demonstration of Life in these two forms.

It is said that Life as we presently know it is simply a temporary stage on the evolutionary ladder upon which we have arrived; a stage that will lead inexorably towards a final unity which will see the two halves brought into a unity. What appears now to be the norm was not so in the distant past and it will surely not be so in future time.

It is rare to find at this stage on the evolutionary arc a person who truly combines within himself/herself the universal qualities of the two sexes, male/female, in perfect balance, and who is, physiologically, emotionally, and mentally, entirely self-sustaining and self-satisfying.

We hear through our spiritual and history books of those rare individuals we call saints or holy men/women who seem to embody the union of the qualities of the two sexes; perhaps also, we are aware of those rare souls in our own lifetime who seem to fit the description somewhat, and we can do nothing but marvel at their purity of mind, heart and body.

The Hermaphrodite, a much misunderstood word, is the truly androgynous individual, the perfected human being. He/she (with yin and yang resolved) is the distant racial and evolutionary achievement that will find expression when the world cycle will have run its course and the two separated halves, as they now stand, will again be merged in their essential unity.
