To Own Without Claiming

Here’s a short and poignant excerpt about owning without claim . . .

🦋

“It is good to understand how to possess things without a feeling of ownership. It is good to possess things — to take care of them, even imbue them with a benevolent aura, with the intention of passing them on to others, knowing that ownership is ever temporary. All that one possesses in a lifetime must pass to others in the endless stream of living.

The hands of true creativity dwell in a house without being attached to it, and when the house is improved, it brings additional joy that lingers continuously — herein lies the justification of claiming nothing. Everyone benefits, now and later.

This understanding of owning without claiming can help solve the most difficult of questions. It is a teaching intended for the world, since the world’s greatest danger lies in its attachment to property and all things in general.

Communicating this simple concept will completely eliminate fear. The idea of possession without ownership opens for all the path to unconditional inheritance. Think on it!

Whoever is in a position to improve something is in possession of it for a period of time only, and this applies to houses, land, and forests. It applies also to various inventions and achievements of technology which are subject to the same concept.

It is not difficult to imagine how national creativity would be stimulated, and world creativity especially when we become aware of the great blessings of a detached spirit, which alone offers the best solution to life’s repetitive problems.”

  1. Such a vital lesson in your words. I know this instinctively as an artist who paints clouds and trees, taking them into me and feeling their energy, possessing them for a moment in order to regurgitate them onto paper or canvas. Remarkably, painting still-life’s of my own household possessions made me release ownership over them as I ‘gave’ them to the viewer. What a wonderful world it will be when more people realize they don’t ‘own’ anything but their actions. 🙏

    1. Thank you, Nancy, for appreciating the liberating idea of ‘claiming nothing’ in this world as personal property. It is a hard lesson for us to learn. I resonate with your ‘release of ownership’ by giving away your paintings to the viewer. I am now in the process of paying for a new roof on my house (very expensive) and was pleasantly surprised to find myself thinking how nice it will be for the next owner when I’m gone. He/she won’t have that immediate problem. 👋😊
