“Throughout history, the human being has always been the goal and the ultimate objective, while the struggle between good and evil continues.
Exactly one year ago today, I stood at this podium representing my people and my country for the first time in nearly 60 years. I recalled the victory of our people and affirmed that it was a victory for the entire world. Today, Syria is rising and being reunified. In Syria’s journey through the struggle between good and evil, the war has come to an end, the bloodshed has stopped, the destruction and devastation have ceased, and Syria has begun its journey toward recovery and rebuilding.
We have translated this resurgence into tangible reality by building bridges of partnership on the foundation of firm sovereignty. We have placed the welfare and future of our people and the rebuilding of our country, emerging from the flames of war, at the forefront of our priorities, relying on their will and sovereignty and on the independence of our decisions. The Syrian national vision has produced diplomatic results reflected in numbers.
Since liberation, nearly 100 countries have opened channels of communication with us through around 4,000 meetings, interactions, and contacts. Our capital has become home to around 60 diplomatic missions, and delegations have begun arriving in Syria as it reclaims its place among the nations of the world.
Regarding the issue that burdened Syria’s name for a decade, we launched, together with seven countries, the ‘Breaths of Freedom’ team to bring the chemical legacy to an end. Forty-two chemical bombs were destroyed, and we fully restored our rights within the Organisation for the Prohibition of #Chemical #Weapons. We are working with the International Atomic Energy Agency with the utmost transparency, believing that collective action is a responsibility.
As part of our ongoing fight against transnational criminal networks, our borders have stood as a strong shield. We have seized around 700 million Captagon pills in more than 1,500 operations, dismantled 90 international networks, and fought human trafficking and crime.
The consolidation of security and stability has produced a reality in which the walls of isolation are collapsing. The clouds of sanctions have cleared with the repeal of the Caesar Act, alongside the gradual lifting of European and British sanctions, culminating in the restoration of the cooperation agreement with the European Union.
The designation of Syria as a state sponsor of terrorism has been removed, marking the end of 47 years of isolation. Recovery has returned to this wounded country, bringing with it the dignified and voluntary return of more than 3.5 million displaced people and refugees. Syria is transforming from a crisis passed between states into an opportunity for prosperity that brings the world together.
Today, our national principles are becoming more firmly rooted in the rule of law and the will of the people. No attempt to impose a new reality can undermine the legitimacy of our state, the sovereignty of our law, or the application of international law.
The Golan will remain Syrian territory, and all annexation measures are null and void under UnitedNations Security Council Resolution 497. Today, Israel is showing its exceptional conduct by attacking Syria with nearly 500 air and artillery strikes, more than 1,200 incursions, and around 300 arrests and detentions of Syrians. This threatens Syria’s stability and runs counter to the direction of the international community.
Our declared position remains unchanged: adherence to the 1974 Agreement and a call for Israeli occupation forces to withdraw to the lines of December 8, 2024.”
